A smuggling boat was intercepted off Mission Beach on Sunday afternoon and 17 undocumented immigrants were taken into custody.

The interception of the 31-foot sport boat by the U.S. Coast Guard took place about 12:50 p.m., according to a videographer at the scene.

The vessel, which is registered in California, was then transported to a San Diego Lifeguards station near Quivira Court and Quivira Way in Mission Beach.

The 17 undocumented immigrants, including 14 men and three women, were turned over to Border Patrol agents and then transported to a station for processing.
