Firefighters quickly took control of a brush fire of up to two acres Sunday in Allied Gardens.
The fire broke out at about 3 p.m. near Princess View Drive and Mission Gorge Road, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
Flames did not threaten structures, officials said. Crews had the fire at 10% containment less than 90 minutes later.
Units will remain at the scene for at least two hours to create a barrier between the burned and unburned brush and to make sure all embers and hot spots are completely out, according to the department.
The fire was in the river bottom, where the vegetation was thick and dry, the fire department said. A couple of water tenders, which carry thousands of gallons, responded to bring water to the area.
A San Diego fire copter also made water drops.
