A woman died and her husband, who was also injured, stands accused in her death following a domestic disturbance at a Lemon Grove residence, authorities said Saturday.

Investigators identified the victim as Rhona Barcelon, 30, and her husband as Jay Barcelon, 31. Detectives arrested Jay Barcelon Saturday on suspicion of murder.

The incident happened at about 7:30 p.m. Friday at a home in the 2200 block of Dain Court, according to Lt. Thomas Seiver of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

A man and woman were reportedly arguing. When deputies arrived, they heard screaming inside the residence and forced entry when nobody answered the door, Seiver said.

Inside, deputies intervened to end the confrontation, and found that Rhona Barcelon had been stabbed, while Jay Barcelon also suffered undisclosed injuries.

Both were taken to a hospital, the lieutenant said, but the woman was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The man underwent surgery, is in stable condition, and expected to survive.

The Medical Examiner’s Office is scheduled to conduct an autopsy Sunday to determine the cause and manner of Rhona Barcelon’s death.
