A 17-year-old boy was killed and five other people were seriously injured in a possible street racing crash late Friday night on Genesee Avenue in Linda Vista.

San Diego Police said a 2010 Toyota Camry and and 2008 Nissan Altima were traveling westbound when the Toyota sped past the Nissan, sideswiping it, and then crashed head-on into a 2020 Mazda.

The crash occurred just before 11 p.m. at Genesee Avenue and Osler Street. A videographer at the scene said the Toyota and Nissan were racing after leaving a high school sports game.

Firefighters used “jaws of life” equipment to extricate the injured from the two extensively damaged vehicles. Video from the scene showed wreckage strewn across the road and multiple ambulances on hand.

The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene, and two of three passengers in the vehicle suffered serious injuries. The driver of the Mazda and two passengers were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

The driver and 2 passengers in the sideswiped Nissan only complained of pain.

The San Diego Police traffic division is continuing to investigate the collision. Anyone with information regarding the crash was urged to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
