Authorities reached out to the public Thursday for help in locating a vehicle that was seen driving on a La Mesa street where an 18-year-old man was found gravely injured late last month.
About 9:10 p.m. on Feb. 27, officers responded to a call of an injured man lying on the eastern edge of the roadway on Bancroft Drive, just south of Golondrina Drive, La Mesa police Lt. Greg Runge said.
Officers responded to the scene and found 18-year-old Jok Joseph Jok, of San Diego, unresponsive with apparent injuries to his head and shoulder, Runge said.
Jok was taken to a hospital, where he later died, the lieutenant said.
“The manner and means of his death is currently under investigation,” Runge said.
Video surveillance showed several vehicles in the area around the time of the incident and detectives have identified a possible vehicle of interest. The vehicle was described as a white 2009-2014 Ford F150 possibly missing a front bumper, and with an extended cab containing a silver metal tool box.
Anyone with information about the location of the vehicle or the circumstances leading up to the death is urged to call LMPD at 619-667-7532 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
