A woman was hospitalized Friday with severe injuries after her vehicle landed upside down in Tecolote Creek under Interstate 5 in Mission Valley following a two-car crash, according to a media report.

The crash happened about 9:10 p.m. Thursday on southbound Interstate 5 near the entrance and exit ramps to Sea World Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.

One of the involved vehicles ended up in the creek that runs under the freeway, the CHP reported.

The driver from that vehicle, a woman whose age was not immediately available, was pulled out of the wreckage and taken to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, Fox5 reported.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured, according to the news station. No details about the other driver were immediately available.

The circumstances leading up to the crash were under investigation.
