A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of a 25-year-old man on a trolley platform in San Diego, a police lieutenant said Sunday.
Police received a call at about 8:15 p.m. Saturday of a stabbing at the Imperial Trolley Center, 1255 Imperial Ave., and along with transit authorities found the victim suffering from several stab wounds to his chest, said Lt. Andra Brown of the San Diego Police Department.
Paramedics rushed the victim to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 9:30 p.m., Brown said.
A subsequent investigation revealed that the victim was in a fight with another man on the trolley platform and during the fight the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the 25-year-old several times in the chest, Brown said.
“The two men separated and walked in different directions,” she said. “The victim did not initially disclose that he was injured, but moments later, an MTS (Metropolitan Transit System) officer noticed he was bleeding and began first aid. Upon realizing the victim was injured, MTS officers began chasing the suspect on foot.”
The suspect was captured several blocks away and detectives remained at the scene of the assault collecting evidence and attempting to locate witnesses.
