Three people were hospitalized with serious injuries after a speeding SUV collided with three other vehicles in Chula Vista’s Otay Ranch neighborhood, police said Thursday.

The crash happened about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of East Palomar Street and Santa Olivia Road, Chula Vista police Lt. Matt Smith said.

A man speeding in a black BMW SUV was westbound on Palomar in a lane designated for buses when he struck at least three other vehicles, Smith said.

Footage from Fox5 showed his vehicle and another SUV with heavy front- end damage, while a plumbing van and sedan had less severe damage.

Three people, including the BMW driver, were taken to hospitals for treatment of serious injuries, Lt. Scott Adkins said. None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.

No further details about the driver or the victims were immediately available.

Authorities were investigating whether the BMW driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Anyone with information on the crash was urged to call CVPD’s non- emergency line at 619-691-5151.
