A would-be thief fired a off a gun while making a failed attempt to steal a woman’s purse in Kearny Mesa Friday morning, but no one was hurt.
The victim was walking in the area of Aero Drive and Kearny Villa Road about 7:15 a.m. when the man confronted her, threatened her with a handgun and demanded her handbag, according to San Diego police Officer Tony Martinez.
He then fired a shot — possibly accidentally — and ran off empty- handed, Martinez said.
The bandit was believed to be in his 20s and was dressed in jeans, a black hooded jacket and a black face mask.
