A fire that gutted a Chula Vista shoe store last month, leaving four firefighters injured, was accidental in origin, authorities reported Thursday.
The blaze erupted shortly after 5:30 p.m. Jan. 25 on the second floor of Action Footwear in the 600 block of H Street, just east of Interstate 5, according to the Chula Vista Fire Department.
Driven by storm-driven high winds, flames tore through the building, eventually causing its roof to collapse.
Three firefighters suffered minor to moderately serious burns while working to subdue the blaze, and another sustained an ankle injury, officials said.
A joint investigation by the city fire department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives determined that the fire was not suspicious, according to the federal agency, which did not specify its cause.
