A pedestrian crossing a street outside of a crosswalk was struck and killed by a vehicle, police said Sunday.

At about 7:10 p.m. Saturday, the driver of a 2014 Toyota Tundra was traveling eastbound in the 600 block of E Street when he struck a pedestrian, Chula Vista Police Department Officer J. Rodrigues said.

Officers arrived at the scene and performed CPR on the pedestrian until paramedics arrived and transported the victim to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he later died, Rodrigues said.

“The driver of the vehicle was cooperative and released at the scene pending further investigation,” the officer said.

Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor in the traffic collision, he said.

The CVPD traffic bureau was investigating the accident.
