Authorities Tuesday publicly identified a 32-year-old man who was killed in an apparent gang shooting in Sherman Heights.
Juan Ledesma of San Diego died at a hospital on Saturday, two days after being shot in a residential neighborhood near the intersection of Interstate 5 and state Route 94, according to police.
Patrol officers responding to a report of gunfire in the 400 block of 24th Street shortly before 11:30 p.m. Thursday found firearm shell casings and blood in the street but no victim, Lt. Matt Dobbs said.
A short time later, Ledesma was dropped off at Sharp Coronado Hospital, suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was later transported to a trauma center in San Diego, where he remained in critical condition until his death.
Investigators have identified no suspects in the case.
“(Homicide detectives) are still trying to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting, but it does appear to be gang related,” the lieutenant said Tuesday morning.
