A car struck a 62-year-old man on a Mission Valley street Wednesday afternoon, leaving him gravely injured.

The westbound 2012 Volvo S60 sedan hit the pedestrian when he ran into its path in the 2200 block of Camino De La Reina about 2:15 p.m., according to San Diego police.

Paramedics took the man to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening head trauma and a broken thighbone, Officer Robert Heims said.

The 26-year-old woman behind the wheel of the vehicle was unharmed.
