San Diego police detectives are trying to determine if a suspicious weekend traffic fatality in Old Town was a homicide, authorities said Monday.
Officers responding to reports of an injury accident shortly after 3:30 a.m. Sunday found a 48-year-old man gravely injured in a parking lot driveway in the 4100 block of Wallace Street, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending family notification.
While questioning the man’s girlfriend, who was driving the vehicle that had struck him, investigators “noted discrepancies that led them to believe the collision may have been an intentional act,” said Lt. Andra Brown.
”It is still early in the investigation, and detectives are interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence,” the lieutenant said.
The identity of the 47-year-old potential suspect was not released.
