Clairemont collision

A 57-year-old motorist was killed Wednesday afternoon in a collision at a Clairemont intersection.

The man was heading south on Genesee Avenue in a 2004 Lexus sedan shortly after 12:30 p.m. when he apparently ran a red light and made a left-hand turn at Chateau Drive directly in the path of an oncoming 2018 Tesla SUV, according to San Diego Police.

The resulting collision left the driver of the Lexus, who was not wearing seat belts, dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending family notification.

Medics took the other motorist, a 73-year old man, to a hospital for evaluation of arm pain, Officer Tony Martinez said.

To allow for investigation and cleanup, police shut down Chateau Drive between Diane Avenue and the site of the collision, and cordoned off northbound Genesee Avenue between Mount Herbert and Sauk avenues. The closures were expected to remain in effect into the early evening.
