The crash was reported around 1:15 a.m. on the I-8 west transition ramp to northbound state Route 163, said California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt.
A man behind the wheel of a 2006 Chrysler 300 sedan lost control of the car on the transition ramp and crashed into a wall, leaving the car with major front-end damage, Bettencourt said.
The man, whose age was not immediately available, was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego for treatment of major injuries, the officer said.
