A 1.5-acre brush fire briefly closed one lane of eastbound Interstate 8 in Alpine on Friday afternoon.
The fire started around 4 p.m. near the viewpoint overlooking the Sweetwater River Gorge, east of the Willows Road exit.
Firefighters with the U.S. Forest Service quickly attacked the blaze with the ground and air units, and are now investigating the cause.
No structure were threatened by the fire, which was brought under control in less than an hour.
