A search for a child missing from the Tecolote Canyon neighborhood ended Sunday after authorities determined the boy had been picked up by his mother without the father being told.

According to OnSceneTV, the 4-year-old was with his father about 11:50 a.m. Sunday at the Tecolote Recreation Center, where the man was coaching Little League, when he was thought to go missing.

San Diego police were called, and an extensive ground and air search was started with the help park rangers and from 50 to 100 volunteers at the park.

Authorities search the park, canyon and neighborhood on foot and with the use of the ABLE police helicopter. Meantime, the father repeatedly tried to reach the mother at her cell phone number, and at about 12:50 p.m. he reached his estrange wife.

The woman said she had picked up the child from the park without contacting his father. She was supposed to meet the man face-to-face when she came to get the boy.

According to OnSceneTV, San Diego police found the woman at a cell phone repair shop in Clairemont and were speaking with her.
