
San Diego Police homicide detectives are investigating the shooting death Saturday of a man in the Shelltown neighborhood just north of National City.

The sound of gunshots were reported at 1:35 a.m. in the 1800 block of South 42nd Street, police said. When officers arrived, they found two victims on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims were taken to the hospital, according to the SDPD Homicide Unit, where a 49-year-old Hispanic man died. A 56-year-old Hispanic man was in critical condition, but was expected to survive.
Names of the victims have not been released, pending notification of families.
A vehicle was seen speeding away from the scene after the shooting, but witnesses were not able to provide a vehicle description.
