An 81-year-old man was killed and three other people suffered minor injuries when a work truck crashed into parked vehicles on a Chula Vista street, authorities said Tuesday.
A man driving a Chevrolet work truck was heading northbound in the 500 block of Fourth Avenue around 1:10 p.m. Monday when he lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons and struck a parked Chevrolet Silverado pickup, Chula Vista police Officer Victor Del Rio said.
The Silverado then struck a second parked car and an 81-year-old man who was crossing the street near the second parked vehicle, Del Rio said.
The man wound up trapped underneath the Silverado, Lt. Buddy Magor said.
Emergency crews freed the pedestrian and took him to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego, where he was pronounced dead. His name was withheld pending family notification.
A woman and child standing next to the second vehicle and a second juvenile inside the Silverado were also injured. The woman and children were taken to hospitals for treatment of apparently minor injuries, Magor said.
The driver of the work truck remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. No details about the driver were immediately available.
“It is yet unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision,” Del Rio said.
