Chula Vista police jailed a man Sunday on suspicion of evading police, narcotic possession and DUI after a wild vehicle chase, a lieutenant said.

The pursuit began at 4:52 a.m. in the 8600 block of Palomar Street, Lt. Buddy Magor of the Chula Vista Police Department said.

An officer attempted to pull over Christian Carrazco, 24, after seeing his truck speeding and swerving, Magor said. Instead, Carrazco led him on a chase, reaching speeds of 80 mph and running stop lights and stop signs. He lost control of the truck in the 600 block of Bay Boulevard and crashed, hitting a palm tree and chain-link fence.

Carrazco was taken into custody and faces a felony charge of evading police, two misdemeanor charges of narcotic possession and driving under the influence of alcohol, according to San Diego County Sheriff’s Department jail records.

He was booked in the San Diego Central Jail on $50,000 bail and is set to be arraigned Wednesday.
