A man and a woman sustained major injuries Sunday morning when a suspected drunk driver headed north on I-805 clipped their car and sent them flying off the freeway.

A man was thrown from his car early Sunday morning when a suspected drunk driver hit his vehicle and sent the car flying off a freeway in Chula Vista.

According to OnScene.TV, the male driver of a BMW headed north on I-805 at about 6 a.m. cut in front of a Toyota sedan carrying the driver and a female passenger, making contact with it.

The impact forced the Toyota off the highway south of Telegraph Canyon Road where it crashed into a large freeway sign and then a tree, and started rolling. The driver was ejected from the car, and landed against the freeway fencing.

The car continued to roll with the passenger inside, and came to rest on Osage Avenue.

The driver of the BMW lost control of his car and also went off the freeway, striking a freeway sign and a utility pole holding a freeway camera. The vehicle landed on its roof.

The man and woman who were in the Toyota both suffered major injuries and were transported to Mercy Hospital for treatment.

The BMW driver, who was able to get out of his vehicle, failed a sobriety test and was arrested. He sustained minor injuries.
