A water main break Tuesday in Escondido created a sinkhole that sucked in a parked vehicle, shut down an intersection and left more than two dozen customers without water.
The break of the 12-inch water main was reported around 3 a.m. near the intersection of Seventh Avenue and South Pine Street, Escondido Director of Utilities Christopher McKinney said.
A vehicle parked on the street fell into the 4-foot deep sinkhole created by the rushing water, which also entered at least two homes, 10News reported.
Crews shut down the water main and towed the vehicle out of the hole by 6 a.m.
The main break left 26 customers without water, McKinney said, adding that water service was expected to be restored for those customers by 4 this afternoon.
The intersection of Seventh Avenue and South Pine Street was expected to remain closed until 8 p.m., he said.
The cause of the break was under investigation.
