A pedestrian was killed when he was struck by at least five vehicles on state Route 94 in Lemon Grove, authorities said Thursday.

The initial collision happened around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday on eastbound state Route 94 near College Avenue, California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Garrow said.

A 27-year-old woman behind the wheel of a 2010 Nissan Altima swerved to the left when she saw the man attempting to walk northbound across the highway, but she was unable to avoid him, Garrow said.

“Following the initial collision, the pedestrian was struck several more times by four to five additional vehicles,” the officer said.

Several motorists, including the Nissan driver, stopped and called 911 to report that they had struck the pedestrian.

The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene, Garrow said.
