The Border Patrol reported Tuesday agents in its Maritime Task Force discovered an abandoned 26-foot pleasure craft with $4 million in marijuana aboard.
The boat came ashore near St. Malo Beach just before noon on Sunday. Witnesses said two occupants jumped from the boat and ran south along the shore.
When agents got to the boat, they discovered 1,080 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $4.3 million.
“Although the State of California has legalized marijuana for recreational use, we still see criminal organizations attempting to smuggle illicit narcotics in elaborate methods,” said Chief Patrol Agent Douglas Harrison.
