A 78-year-old man riding a bicycle was seriously injured Tuesday in a collision with an SUV in Point Loma.

The collision occurred about 5:55 p.m. in the 3000 block of Loma Riviera Drive, according to San Diego Police Sgt. Michael Tansey.

The cyclist was eastbound in the 4100 block of Loma Riviera Lane, approaching the intersection with Loma Riviera Drive, when he struck a silver 2017 Subaru SUV that was being driven south by a 65-year-old man.

The bicyclist entered the intersection without yielding and struck the vehicle, Tansey said.

The rider was thrown and seriously injured. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the SUV stopped and cooperated with investigators, according to Tansey.
