A man suffered moderate injuries when his paraglider crashed below Palomar Mountain, authorities said Tuesday.

The crash happened around 7:15 p.m. Monday near Nate Harrison Grade Road, Cal Fire spokesman Thomas Shoots said.

Crews initially thought they would need a rescue helicopter to get to the man, but they were able to access the hillside where the man crashed with fire engines and an ambulance, Shoots said.

Paramedics took the man, whose age was not immediately available, to Palomar Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries, he said.
