Five people were treated for smoke inhalation after a cabin cruiser caught fire at 2 p.m. near the east end of the Coronado Bridge.
San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel and Harbor Police responded to the blaze aboard a 36-foot Bayliner from which smoke was billowing.
Three people on the boat, and two firefighters, were transported to local hospitals to be checked for smoke inhalation.
Early indications suggested the fire was caused by an electrical problem.
Authorities planned to tow the damaged boat to a harbor.
