San Diego Police began searching for a gunman in a Mt. Hope neighborhood Friday after a 27-year-old man showed up at Scripps Mercy Hospital with three life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Hospital personnel called police after the unidentified gunshot victim arrived in a private vehicle around 2 p.m., according to the San Diego Police Department, which reported the shooting occurred on C Street near 41st Street.
The man was rushed into surgery for his life-threatening injuries, Sgt. Michael Tansey said.
Police gathered that the victim was involved in an altercation with the shooter.
The suspect was described as a light-skinned Hispanic man, about 30 years old, wearing a green basketball jersey and a blue and yellow baseball cap. He left the scene in a green pickup truck and headed southbound on 41st Street, according to police.
Gang detectives are investigating the shooting.
