A private pilot escaped injury Thursday when the experimental single-engine plane he was flying crash-landed in a field in the rural eastern reaches of San Diego County, authorities reported.
The aircraft went down in a gently sloping open area east of state Route 94 in Jamul about 10 a.m., according to Cal Fire.
Medics evaluated the pilot — the sole occupant of the plane at the time of the accident — at the scene, determining that he was unharmed, said Issac Sanchez, a fire captain with the state agency.
It was not immediately clear what led to the hard landing near Jamul Casino.
