The body of a man thought to have drowned was found Sunday morning near a lifeguard tower on the shoreline in Imperial Beach.
The man, in his late 20s, was found by joggers at about 7:30 a.m. still partially in the water at the end of Dahlia Avenue..
San Diego Sheriff‘s deputies, paramedics and fire personnel responded to the area. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim’s female companion was found and interviewed. Alcohol and drugs are suspected as contributing factors in the incident, according to sheriff’s officials.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct a further investigation to confirm the victim’s identity, notify the man’s family and determine the cause of death.
