Customs and Border Protection reported the arrest of an American man smuggling 114 packages of methamphetamine worth $238,000 at the Interstate 8 checkpoint.
The vehicle was stopped by officers at 7:35 p.m. on Thursday. As agents questioned the driver, a drug-sniffing dog alerted agents to the presence of drugs.
The driver was directed to secondary investigation, where the plastic-wrapped bundles were discovered inside the 2007 Mazda 3’s door and rear-quarter panels.
The driver, a 33-year-old U.S. citizen, was placed under arrest. The narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. The vehicle was seized by the Border Patrol.
Since Oct. 1, agents in the San Diego sector have seized approximately 2,789 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $6.4 million.
