Authorities released the name of a suspect who died after allegedly attacking a Lake Murray man in his home.

The resident’s adult son opened fire on the suspect, Hollis Forman, 38, after finding his father being assaulted, police said. The family’s residence is in the 6300 block of Lake Shore Drive.

Officers responded shortly before 6:30 a.m. and found the victim, 54, suffering from stab wounds. Forman lay dead in a backyard swimming pool, police Lt. Anthony Dupree said.

Paramedics took the wounded homeowner to a hospital. Officials admitted him in stable condition.

Homicide detectives determined that the deadly encounter occurred following the homeowner’s interruption of the Tuesday burglary.

“The (intruder) began assaulting the homeowner, at which point the homeowner’s 20-year-old son retrieved a firearm and shot the intruder,” the lieutenant said. “(Forman) ran out the back door and landed in the pool.”
