A motorist fled a traffic stop on a Teralta East- area street Tuesday, leading police on an extremely short pursuit that ended when the fleeing driver pulled onto the grounds of Hoover High School and crashed into a building, authorities reported.
The pursuit began shortly after 10 a.m., when officers tried to pull over the driver for an equipment violation at 44th Street and University Avenue, according to San Diego police.
The motorist, whose name was not immediately available, refused to yield and fled to the north briefly before entering a driveway at the secondary school in the 4400 block of El Cajon Boulevard, SDPD public-affairs Officer Billy Hernandez said.
The fleeing driver’s car then crashed into a structure, and officers had the motorist in custody moments later, according to Hernandez.
Medics took a 20-year-old man from the scene of the crash to a hospital for evaluation of complaints of pain. It was not immediately clear if he was the arrested driver or possibly a passenger or bystander.
The entire chase lasted less than three minutes, Hernandez said.
