Lifeguards called in a San Diego Fire-Rescue helicopter Monday afternoon to rescue a paraglider pilot who crashed below Torrey Pines Golf Course.

An equipment malfunction sent the 41-year-old man from Arizona crashing into think vegetation several hundred feet below the 4th hole of the south course around 2:30 p.m.

Lifeguards and a paramedic rappelled down to help the victim, who was later rescued by helicopter and taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for treatment.

The man’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.
