The San Diego Sheriff announced extra DUI patrols for Memorial Day weekend beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday and continuing until 3 a.m. on Tuesday.

Deputies will be on the lookout for drivers impaired by alcohol, marijuana or prescription drugs.

During Memorial Day weekend in 2018, deputies arrested 17 people for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The year before, 10 people were arrested for DUI.

“If you are caught driving under the influence this Memorial Day weekend, you will go to jail,” said Sheriff Bill Gore. “Slow down, keep your eyes on the road and drive safe.”

Funding for the extra patrols was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
