A woman reported being kidnapped and held against her will Monday in a neighborhood near Black Mountain Open Space Park, a claim that investigators ultimately deemed unfounded.
The alleged victim showed up at a home in the 9800 block of Caminito Cuadro in Rancho Penasquitos about 10:45 a.m. and told a resident she had been abducted and held captive in a nearby house, according to San Diego police.
Officers took the woman, who seemingly was uninjured, to a San Diego Police Department substation for an in-depth interview.
“Based upon the information received, this incident is not being investigated as a kidnapping,” Lt. Shawn Takeuchi said in the late afternoon. “The (SDPD) Sex Crimes Unit was notified, and detectives from that unit have taken the lead and are actively investigating this incident.”
Police released no further details about the alleged crime, including whether any suspects have been identified or taken into custody.
