Customs and Border Protection on Friday announced the arrest of an American citizen after $135,000 worth of methamphetamine was found concealed in his car’s gas tank.

Agents assigned to the Campo checkpoint stopped a 2002 Nissan Altima sedan on Wednesday afternoon after a Border Patrol K-9 alerted agents to the presence of drugs.

The vehicle and its driver were sent to secondary inspection, and agents found 53 suspicious packages floating in the gas tank. They contained nearly 60 pounds of meth.

The driver, a 47-year-old U.S. citizen, was placed under arrest and his vehicle was seized by the Border Patrol.
