A man accused of fatally shooting a female Navy corpsman outside an Oceanside apartment complex last summer was ordered Tuesday to stand trial on a murder charge.

Eduardo Arriola, 26, is accused in the July 20 killing of 24-year-old Devon Rideout, who was stationed at Camp Pendleton. Both Arriola and Rideout were residents of an apartment building at 550 Los Arbolitos Blvd., where prosecutors allege Arriola shot Rideout multiple times around 4 p.m.

She died at the scene, according to Oceanside police.

No motive for the killing or connection between Arriola and Rideout has been disclosed, but Deputy District Attorney Keith Watanabe said Rideout’s name was found scrawled on the radiator tank of Arriola’s car.

Arriola, who’s charged with murder and a special circumstance allegation of lying in wait, which makes him eligible for the death penalty should prosecutors pursue capital punishment in the event that he’s convicted. Otherwise, he would face life imprisonment without the possibility of parole if found guilty.

Arriola is being held without bail and will return to court June 28 for a Superior Court arraignment.
