A second young man was behind bars Friday in connection with a fatal shooting near Colina Del Sol park three days before Christmas.
Kaelon Daniels, 19, was taken into custody Thursday in connection with the Dec. 22 shooting that killed 31-year-old Dionte Floyd and wounded 38- year-old Dashe Wallace, according to San Diego police.
Mason Williams, 20, was arrested Jan. 30 and pleaded not guilty in February to murder, attempted murder and firearm possession charges.
Officers responding to reports of a shooting shortly before 6 p.m. in the 5200 block of El Cajon Boulevard found the victims suffering from gunshot wounds to their upper bodies, Lt. Chris Tivanian said.
Investigators determined that a group of three or four men, allegedly including Williams and Daniels, got into an argument with Floyd and Wallace as the pair walked through the mid-city neighborhood. The dispute turned physical and then erupted in gunfire, after which the group that included the shooter ran off, Lt. Anthony Dupree said.
Medics took the wounded men to a hospital, where Floyd was pronounced dead.
It remains unclear if the victims were shot by a sole gunman or more than one.
Authorities have not disclosed a suspected motive for the shooting or what led investigators to identify Williams and Daniels as suspects.
Daniels was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of first- degree murder and attempted murder. He was being held without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Monday morning.
