Four people were arrested at an overnight driver’s license/sobriety checkpoint in Escondido, a police lieutenant said Saturday.

“Two subjects were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol,” Escondido Police Lt. M. Kearney said. “One of those drivers attempted to avoid the checkpoint and turned into the police and fire headquarters and struck a post protecting the south security gate. The other two subjects were arrested for felony warrants.”

The checkpoint was located at Centre City Parkway and Decatur Way, he said. Police did not release its hours of operation.

Among more than 1,500 vehicles passing through the checkpoint, 24 citations were issued for motorists driving unlicensed, four for driving with a suspended license and three citations were issued to motorists driving with no insurance, police said.
