An overturned SUV had all lanes of westbound Interstate 8 blocked near El Cajon Sunday.
A black Hummer hit the center divider of westbound I-8 near Los Coches Road and flipped onto its side a little before 11 a.m., witnesses told the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers shut down all the westbound lanes shortly after the crash, causing a miles-long traffic backup into rural East County. There were reports of drivers attempting to go the wrong way on the interstate to get to an exit.
There was no immediate information on how many occupants were in the Hummer or whether they were injured.
All lanes were reopened by 12:15 p.m., Caltrans San Diego tweeted.
