Police on Friday arrested Leonard Derrick on suspicion of burglary and sexual assault, according to Lt. Carole Beason of the San Diego Police Department. Details of where Derrick was taken into custody were not disclosed.
At 5:30 a.m. on March 22, the victim showed up at a neighbor’s home to report that she had just been attacked by a stranger who had sneaked into her residence in the 4400 block of 50th Street, Beason said.
Officers arrived in the mid-city neighborhood to find a man matching the description of the assailant leaving the area, Beason said.
The officers tried to stop the suspect, but he ran off and was able to escape, she said.
Derrick was being held on $1 million bail and was due in court on April 3.
