San Diego Sheriff‘s deputies arrested one suspected drunk driver and issued a total of 22 citations for other infractions at two DUI checkpoints on Friday night.

At a checkpoint in Santee in the 8800 block of North Magnolia Avenue, deputies stopped 932 drivers between 8:30 p.m. Friday and 2:30 a.m. Saturday. One suspected drunk driver was arrested and 10 citations were issued for license violations.

In Encinitas, deputies set up a checkpoint in the 1800 block of South Coast Highway 101 from 8 p.m. Friday until 1:30 a.m. Saturday. A total of 551 vehicles were stopped, but no arrests were made. Deputies issued 12 citations.

Law enforcement authorities regularly operate the checkpoints and announce them in advance as a deterrent to people who might drink alcohol or smoke marijuana and then drive.
