A pedestrian was struck by an elderly pickup truck driver in downtown San Diego Friday morning and hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
The crash happened just before 11 a.m. in the 1200 block of 10th Avenue.
The victim — a 53-year-old woman whose name was being withheld — was walking in a crosswalk when she was struck by an 85-year-old man behind the wheel of a truck heading south on 10th Avenue, police said.
The woman was taken to a hospital, while the driver was stopped two blocks away from the scene, according to SDPD. It was unknown whether the man was arrested for driving away from the scene.
A Street was closed between 10th and 11th avenues and was expected to remain shut down “for an extended duration,” according to SDPD.
