Three people were injured late Tuesday afternoon, two severely, when a car and a pickup truck collided on a back-country road east of Dos Picos County Park.
The wreck in the 3200 block of Dye Road in Ramona occurred about 4:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The impact of the crash sheared off the engine block from the white car and firefighters had to cut off the roof the pickup truck to extricate the people trapped inside.
Emergency-services helicopters were called in to fly the two seriously injured people to a hospital, Cal Fire spokesman Issac Sanchez said. The third patient was transported by ground ambulance for treatment of minor trauma.
The accident left the rural roadway closed to through traffic between state Route 67 and San Vicente Road into the early evening.
