A fire damaged a home in an Oceanside neighborhood north of state Route 78 Sunday afternoon.
Someone passing by a home on Carmarillo Avenue near Waring Road — just east of College Boulevard — called authorities at 2:37 p.m. to report seeing smoke coming from windows, a North County fire dispatcher said. Shortly after, someone inside the home called to report a mattress was on fire in a room on the second floor.
Firefighters headed to the home and had the fire knocked down within about 20 minutes, the dispatcher said. At least one person was home but was able to get out safely. No injuries were reported.
There was no information on the extent of the damage.
