The commander of the Rancho San Diego Sheriff’s Station has been relieved of his duties as part of an ongoing federal criminal probe, authorities confirmed Thursday.
San Diego County Sheriff’s Capt. Marco Garmo, 51, will be on paid leave pending resolution of the investigation, according to Melissa Aquino, a spokeswoman for the department.
Aquino declined to provide any details about the case, including its general nature.
“As this is an ongoing federal matter, there will be no further comment at this time,” she said.
Two years ago, Sheriff Bill Gore reprimanded Garmo for violating state limits on gun sales. The District Attorney’s Office issued a warning to Garmo over the matter but declined to file charges against him.
