A woman gravely injured — allegedly at the hands of her younger brother — during a family fight in Escondido has died, authorities reported Thursday.
Patrol officers responding to a report of a medical emergency in the 100 block of East 15th Avenue found 27-year-old Laura Bautista badly hurt and unresponsive shortly before 1 a.m. last Friday, according to police. Medics took her to Palomar Medical Center, where she was admitted in critical condition.
Physicians pronounced the mother of three dead on Tuesday evening, police Lt. Chris Lick said.
Authorities have not disclosed what might have prompted the domestic dispute or specified the nature of the injuries suffered by Bautista.
The victim’s 25-year-old brother, Jose Enrique Bautista, was arrested the day of the fatal fight — his birthday — on suspicion of attempted murder.
It was not immediately clear what charges the suspect, who remains jailed without bail, will face in light of his elder sibling’s death.
