A 19-year-old man was stabbed Tuesday evening in Escondido and died at a hospital in what detectives said they believed was a gang-related crime.

Police responded about 7:20 p.m. to a 911 call of two men fighting in the area of Washington Avenue and Ash Street and found the man with a stab wound to the chest, according to Lt. Chris Lick of the Escondido Police Department.

Officers treated the victim, identified as Alfredo Manzano of Escondido, until paramedics arrived and he was taken to a hospital, Lick said. Manzano died a short time later.

A description of the suspect was not immediately available.
